J. T. Gill’s story “Never Miss: Moses Abebe is a Machine” was published in Metaphorosis on Friday, 30 December 2016.
The inspiration for this story came when I was (shocker) playing basketball. There’s a basketball court not far from our house, and I was out shooting hoops one night in December. It was freezing, and late, and dark, and honestly I don’t know why I was out there except to think. This story is pretty much where my mind went. I was missing a lot of shots that night, so naturally I started thinking about how awesome it would be to make every shot…and then I carried that a little further. Specifically, to the NBA.
One of my favorite things about having a story published is sharing where the inspiration came from, not only for others, but for myself as well. I have fond memories of this one, because it always takes me back to that freezing night in December, missing all those shots. Maybe not a great memory, but I think stories have a way of making un-extraordinary memories a little more meaningful.
At least they do for me.
