Matthew Amundsen’s story “Country Whispers” was published in Metaphorosis on Friday, 7 June 2019. 
I lived through a slightly different version of this story in a dream. The horrific ending stayed with me for quite a while, and only turning it into fiction could get it out of my mind. Translating a dream into fiction has its own pitfalls, but luckily I found a way to be true to the emotions of the dream as well as the character of Leusa.
