Kathryn Yelinek’s story “The Woman Who Brought Love to Death” was published in Metaphorosis on Friday, 19 June 2020. Metaphorosis

I’ve had the image of a woman who could see love in my head for years, but I couldn’t find the right story for the character. I tried everything—romance, murder mystery, you name it. But none of the stories worked. A few were downright embarrassing, now that I look back on them. Still, I kept coming back to the idea of what would it be like to see love? What would a person do with that ability? What sorts of problems would it cause them? Then my husband and I went to Iceland for our honeymoon, and I was entranced by the landscape and the Viking history. So I tried putting my poor, lost love-seer into an Icelandic-flavored setting, and it clicked. Gudrun fell out of my head and onto the page, and I went with it.
