A question for A.D. Guzman

A question for A.D. Guzman

Q: If someone wanted to make an animated series out of your work, based on the title or recurring themes, what would it look like?

A: I love this question because I often picture my story as a movie or animation as I’m writing. For “An Hour in the City of Lightning” I totally see something in the style of Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle or Castle in the Sky. Studio Ghibli has a beautiful and honest way of bringing the most mundane and extraordinary characters to life, side by side in the same or parallel universes, so I would love to see my characters represented that way. Also, the worldbuilding in Miyazaki’s animation shows a love and respect for nature and depicts strange worlds as places equally as complex, beautiful, dangerous, and real as our own, which I feel aligns with the dual dimensions and themes of my story.
